In this blog post the speaker for this month’s meeting, James Newton from Magic Torch Recruitment, shares his nuggets with us.

What habits have you developed to increase your success?

Learning when to say no is a challenge but key.

What’s the biggest failure you’ve incurred and how did you get over it?

As it’s still early days for Magic Torch, I’m lucky enough to have not had any significant failures (yet!) However, I have learnt that the only time we really develop is when things are difficult. Anyone can be a success when things are going well, it’s how you react to failure and bounce back from it that really shows resilience.

What book has inspired you the most?

I’m an avid reader but never been one for serious books. I am a keen musician and songwriter so lyrics have always resonated with me. The Rolling Stones said it best “You can’t always get what you want, but, if you try sometimes you might find, you get what you need”!

What are your hidden inspiration sources? How do you generate new ideas?

By listening to what my customers tell me, and, by focusing on what I do well and enjoy, rather than what I think can make me money.

What’s the one thing you wish you’d known when you started your business

That setting up a business bank account is unnecessarily painful!

Sadly you’ve missed out on James’s excellent talk but why not come along to our next meeting for free?
